Minister of Telecom, Eng. Johnny Corm media office released the following statement:

Beirut- Dec 10, 2021: Transmission sites belonging to Alfa are being subject to organized thefts causing damages negatively impacting the network performance. This is resulting in partial or complete disconnection of thousands of subscribers from voice and data services.
Between October 27 and Dec 3, as an example, 23 theft incidents were reported on following sites: El Abdeh (stolen twice), Barqa, Kfarhata, Maghraq (Tannourine- Laqlouq), Al Mouhamara (stolen 3 times), El Nourieh, Bire, Beksmaya, Fakha, Ehmej, Deir Jennine, Kfarhara, Wadi Khaled, Labweh, Oyoun es-Samak, Massoudieh, Menjez (stolen twice), Nafisi, Rahbeh, Laqlouq, Tal Bibi, and Deir Bala.
Thefts are targeting generators, batteries, fuel supplies, and solar systems. These thefts are punishable by law being considered intentional acts of sabotage of the mobile network and an aggression towards a public facility. Alfa has been taking all necessary legal and judicial measures upon each theft.
The Ministry of Telecommunications calls on security and judicial authorities to be strict in preventing this abnormal phenomenon and to give this issue the utmost importance, given the enormous damage caused to the mobile network, subscribers, public money, and the national economy.
