Beirut, March 2, 2018: Alfa Chairman & CEO, Marwan Hayek, was elected as a member of the Board of Directors of SAMENA Telecommunications Council, a tri-regional (South Asia, Middle East and North Africa) telecoms industry association (around 90 telecom operators' members) and a sector development partner to regulatory authorities. The voting and election process took place on the sidelines of the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. In addition to Mr. Hayek, the Council consists of 11 executives and senior figures in the telecommunications sector, and it aims to promote cooperation and knowledge networking as well as achieving the common objectives of the members in evolving the telecommunications sector in the region.
Commenting on this milestone, Hayek said that "The election of Alfa, managed by Orascom TMT, as a member of SAMENA Board of Directors reflects the confidence placed by the Council in Alfa's leadership in the telecommunications sector in Lebanon and in the region. This election is a remarkable tribute to Alfa, to Lebanon and to me personally. We are the first Lebanese operator to hold this position and to be granted such a trust, which makes us proud". He added "As a member of the Board of Directors of SAMENA Council for the next two years, I look forward to contributing to the collective efforts of SAMENA's Council to further evolve the telecommunications industry in the region. I also look forward to conveying Alfa's experience and the successes it has achieved in the mobile sector in Lebanon. "
Mr. SAMENA Council CEO Mr. Bocar BA said: "We are delighted to know that Alfa, led by Chairman& CEO Mr. Marwan Hayek, has been elected to the Board of Directors of SAMENA Council. This is the first time that the market of Lebanon is being represented within SAMENA Council at the Board level.
