Children Advocating Children’s Rights

May-2010

In an effort aiming at promoting disabled children’s rights, alfa, sponsored Sesobel’s “Children Advocating Children’s Rights” Roundtable event, held under the Auspices of H.E. Dr. Salim Al Sayegh, former Minister of Social Affairs, at the UNESCO palace. Almost 400 people attended the conference among them Senior Representatives from Ministries of Education and Social Affairs, representatives from public and private schools, NGO’s, associations, media, academics and human rights activists. This event came as a final phase of SESOBEL’s “child-by- child” project, which took place throughout the year in collaboration with 9 schools. It included more than 700 students, 14 of them with special needs from SESOBEL.

“In 2010, I have participated in a roundtable to advocate the rights of the children in general and the rights of children with special needs in particular. In cooperation with alfa, we succeeded in making our voices heard among decision makers. This experience gave me hope and determination to improve the situation of all the children in Lebanon.”
