Clarification by Alfa: we are close to the completion of the largest restoration project of our mobile sites damaged by the war

28 June 2025

Beirut, Lebanon – June 28, 2025: In response to reports circulating in some of the local media claiming that the Minister of Telecommunications, Charles Hage is “prohibiting the restoration of the telecom network,” Alfa assures that, under the guidance of Minister Hage, it is close to completing the largest restoration and rehabilitation project of mobile sites damaged by the Israeli war in South Lebanon, Dahieh, and Baalbek-Hermel within the aim of restoring the network to its full operational capacity.
In the South, Alfa has restored 80 out of 107 partially damaged sites. Meanwhile, reconstruction work is underway in 23 completely destroyed sites, mostly located near the border. Moreover, 5 additional stations are currently under repair and will be operational soon. Until the repair and reconstruction work is complete, Alfa has deployed 3 temporary sites in Rmaish, Houla, and Khiam to serve subscribers in the area.
Previously, Alfa had put back into service 9 border sites serving the areas of Bint Jbeil, Khiam, al-Mari, Helta, Al Wazzani, Burj Al-Moulouk, Qlayaa, Kfarkila, Taibeh, Deir Siryan, Haddatha, Ayta al-Jabal, al-Tayri, Kounine, Ainata, Ibl Al-Saqi, Debbine, Marjayoun, Al Rashidiya, Al Housh, Deir Qanoun Ras al-Ain, Jebal al-Bottom, Seddiqine, Arnoun, Deir Mimas, Beit Lif, Yater, Rachaf, Aita Al Shaab, Debel, Hanine, Majdal Zoun, Al-Qawzah, Ain Ebel, Houla, and Maroun al-Ras.
In Baalbek–Hermel, 7 partially damaged stations were restored to service immediately after the ceasefire.
In Dahieh, 23 partially damaged stations were brought back to service.
In parallel, Alfa continues, under the guidance of Minister Hage, the implementation of a 3-year modernization roadmap to upgrade 80% of the network’s components and infrastructure, ensuring full readiness for the future and 5G while also advancing Alfa’s digital transformation journey. Network modernization investments in 2025 will represent around 17% of revenues, up from 7% in 2024.
Additionally, Alfa is carrying out a massive upgrade of the radio network and deploying new sites. It will be also decommissioning the 2G network by the end of this year while in parallel reinforcing the efficiency of sites with 3CC and 4CC capabilities. Meanwhile, Alfa’s focus on sustainability by investing in alternative energy remains steadfast. Currently, 33% of the network (444 stations) is equipped with solar power, an 11% year-on-year increase.
Alfa is also in the process of assessing the feasibility of 5G deployment. The initial plan includes deploying 100 to 150 5G stations in hotspots.
