It will host the company’s core infrastructure and carry 45% of data traffic. The project comes as part of the ongoing strategy to enhance service quality and Lebanon’s digital infrastructure.
The inauguration was attended by MP Elias Hankach, rapporteur of the Parliamentary Technology Committee, MP Jimmy Jabbour, and MP Said El Asmar, along with Touch CEO Salem Itani, Alfa’s partners who worked on the project, and the company’s management and staff.
Minister Hage
Minister Hage stressed the need for an actual breakthrough in the telecommunications sector, noting that the Ministry’s three-year plan is clear built on “fiber optics, wireless mobile Internet, and satellite communications with the goal of moving beyond the current situation to enter a new phase of progress and modernization”.
He spoke about the importance of the Data Center and the services Alfa will offer in the future, highlighting the growing reliance on the digital economy globally. He said: “Today, we have more than 2.5 million subscribers in each of the two mobile operators, representing half of Lebanon’s population. This indicates that any development in this sector will have a direct impact on every individual”.
Minister Hage confirmed that work is underway to improve coverage and service quality. “I promise you that the sector will witness a major leap forward from now until the end of the year”, he said.
He emphasized that the telecommunications sector should not merely be a source of revenue for the Lebanese state but rather a productive sector that actively contributes to economic growth, noting that no economic development is possible without improving infrastructure. “What we are witnessing today is the first step on this path.”
Nassif
Nassif, thanking Minister Hage for his trust and support to Alfa’s digital transformation journey, said: “The inauguration of the Alfa Data Center marks the cornerstone of our digital transformation journey and represents the largest tech investment in the network over the past five years. It hosts the most advanced technologies, the Core Network, and platforms including OCS, HLR, SMSc, CS Core, and IMS. It will handle between 40% and 45% of Internet traffic on Alfa’s network.”
He added: “The Data Center provides high reliability and enhanced crisis response and readiness through integrated backup systems, ensuring service continuity, higher quality, and better network and service availability”.
Nassif explained that the project was completed in one year thanks to the hard work and organized planning. He said: “After overcoming the economic challenges, Alfa set a three-year roadmap and launched network investments in 2024. The Data Center is the outcome of this strategy. Built to Transform, it represents 50% of Alfa’s CAPEX for 2024 and 2025”.
He noted that Internet consumption on Alfa’s network in H1, 2025 reached 93,500 TB, up 20% from the same period in 2024, with average monthly usage per subscriber reaching 9GB, underscoring the need for greater data capacity. “The Data Center strengthens our ability to meet all expected traffic growth,” he confirmed.
Nassif also pointed out that “Alfa’s network modernization plan is progressing strongly within the 2025 plan with 3CC and 4CC technologies added to boost Internet speeds in more than 70 sites, and 30 new sites put in service since the beginning of the year to ensure better coverage across all regions.
He added that Alfa’s strategy has proven effectiveness. “Subscribers grew more than 5% in H1, 2025, positively impacting revenues which increased 11% showing an upward trend in July and August. The Average Revenue Per User (ARPU) increased to around $8”.
